Thanks to some wildness from the Eastern pitchers, the Western All-Stars walked away with an easy 5-0 win in Wednesday’s All-Star game. Zach Wilson (Arizona State, Wareham) was named the MVP for the West while Caleb Ramsey (Houston, Y-D) took home the MVP honors for the East.
Logan Verrett (Baylor, Chatham) had a rough go of it in the 7th for the East, giving up 3 of the West’s runs on three hits and a walk. ESPN’s Keith Law noted how Verrett was a bit of a disappointment, only touching 91 on the radar gun.
The West showed off a strong pitching staff, highlighted by current ERA leader Austin Wood (Cotuit, USC), who started and pitched a flawless first. Relievers RJ Alvarez and Tony Zych, both from Bourne, lit up the radar gun with mid to high 90’s fastballs in the final two innings. Jed Bradley (Georgia Tech) pitched a perfect fifth for the West.
Tyler Hanover (LSU, Y-D) impressed on the Eastern side with a double off the Green Monster and a smooth glove at third. The only multiple hitter on the Eastern side was Caleb Ramsey (Houston), Hanover’s teammate. Andrew Gagnon (Brewster, Long Beach) started for the East and had a strong inning, touching 93 mph and retiring the side 1-2-3.
